Windy City Opry 3nd anniversary with Peter and the Wolves and Amy Nelson
Fri, Dec 13
The Slice - Lethbridge

Time: 8 p.m.

Cover:$10 advance $15 at door

can't even believe the 3 year anniversary for the Windy City Opry is just around the corner. IT'S BLOWING MY MIND and it's all I've been thinking about these last few days. When I decided I wanted to start doing these shows I knew it was something that would take a lot of time, commitment and perseverance. And I don't mean just from me who would be booking them, but also from the community to rally together to keep this event alive. Friday, December 13th is a celebration for all of us in Lethbridge who keep our music scene thriving and I am so grateful for all of you who show up, even if it's not every time. I understand how life goes and it is extremely difficult to support every event we wish to. It's impossible for me. But we do our best and that's what makes our music scene so great. Without you all being there, this monthly event wouldn't have survived this long and I can't even begin to tell you how thrilled I am to see the support you have all shown the Windy City Opry. Here's to many more years! XOXO

I would like to send an extra special shout out to Catwalk SalonSpa Official, CKXU 88.3 FM, Street Legal Records and The Chin Up RecordClub for supporting the WCO for ALL 3 YEARS! Donating door Prizes every single month and helping with advertising. I seriously can't thank you all enough.

I'd also like to give a shout out to Derek at the Slice for the effort he has also put in to support this show; providing us with a venue, feeding the bands and pitching in extra dough for the bands when needed. And also to Steven Foord for doing up posters every month for free!! That is an amazing contribution to supporting this event and I am so grateful.

For this extra special WCO I have connected with more local business and they have graciously donated door prizes for you all to win!

Urban Prairie Antique Mall
Nectar - Fine Tattooing & Art Collective
Campbell's Garlic
Drunken Sailor

And also door prizes, as always, from Catwalk and Street Legal Records. XO

I hope you have all made note of the fact that I have moved the Opry from the second Wednesday to the second Friday this month. I wanted it to be a night we can all let loose and dance the night away together and not worry about work the next day. Showtime will be at 9 pm instead of 8 pm, starting out the night with a couple songs from yours truly. Tickets will be sold in advance at The Slice Bar and Grill for $10 and at the door for $15. So go buy your tickets in advance to pay the standard Opry price, or we will see you at the door for $15! ♥

I am over the moon to have two WCO favourites, Amy Nelson and Peter and The Wolves as the acts for this special evening of music and celebration. Read on to learn about them if you don't already know:

Calgary’s Amy Nelson is a conduit of voices from the past, reverentially channeling the sounds of depression-era blues and Appalachian mountain music through the raw reality of an Albertan feminist. Haunting and honest, gritty and passionate, Amy finger-picks her way through guitar and banjo tunes that bind together wit, beauty and truth.

Calgary’s Peter & the Wolves, are an old fashioned rock and roll band bent on makin’ you wanna kick out your chair shake it all night long!
In 2013, they emerged from Bowness, a fresh-faced rockabilly outfit shaped by their forefathers’ rowdy, unstoppable urge to shake it. Led by Howlin’ Pete Cormier, the Wolves were playing the bar scene while half its members were still in high school. Pete flashed his guitar and lady-killer good looks, as Theo dug deep into his stand-up and Paul cranked out soul-scorching keyboard solos. Sweat dripped from their brow and soaked their sharkskin suits; they pulverized the room and left them panting for more.

Rockabilly with an infectious R&B groove, heartful of twang ’n’ soul, four-on-the-floor rock ’n’ roll wrapped around Howlin’ Pete’s honey-coated vocals and little boy smile that leaves them cryin’ in the aisles.

Howlin' Pete and his Wolves will rock you back in time and you'll want to shake it like it's 1955! From hard hitting original rock and roll to your favourite classics you may have forgotten you loved, you're gonna swing, shimmy and shake all night long.

Calgary's Peter and The Wolves!!

All from Calgary, Pedro Lowe plays the bass, Dillon Pates plays the drums and Howlin' Pete Cormier is the singer, song writer, guitar and piano player.

“Peter & the Wolves, a gang of young bucks from the wilds of Bowness, aim to bring their signature, swing-infused rockabilly to stages across Alberta. Barely 21, frontman Peter Cormier already has an amazing presence and confidence in his vocals and guitar playing. Backed by another qualified newbie, bassist Theo Waite, and a drummer rooted in the rockabilly scene, the trio is setting out to showcase a sound many listeners never had a chance to hear firsthand. They’ve just started work on their first studio recordings, and hope to release a debut album sometime in the near future. Cormier, a tremendous jailhouse rock’n’roll guitar slinger follows the same path paved by Duane Eddy, Eddie Cochrane and Brian Setzer and. Fans of these legends will not be disappointed.”
