Mark Maxwell

Born and raised in a musically inclined family made it no surprise that writing, playing and singing country music was in my blood. This made it a natural progression for me to be singing by age 6 and picking up the guitar by age 9. What wasn't quite so natural was singing in front of a crowd. My first "performance" (and one I will never forget) was impromptu during my senior year of high school. I had a spare class and sitting on the school steps, guitar in hand, I sang for my friends for the very first time.

The fear and pressure of singing in public now conquered, I was hooked. On any given day, guitar once again in hand, I can be found practising for hours, be it at the guitar itself, singing or writing. I find inspiration from talented musicians such as Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, George Straight, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Joe Bonamassa, and of course, none other than Michael Jackson. All of this has helped me continue my journey with some amazing opportunities and performances along the way. These include local community performances, a spot in the top 10 of the 2013 Calgary Stampede Nashville North Star Competition, winner of Original Song in Home Town Stars, and performing for a crowd of 1800 during my time at Fire Fighting School. While all those were amazing opportunities, NONE of those highlights will ever compare to taking my guitar to my Grandma Colleens and singing for her for the first time.
