Celebrating the release of “Skinny Dyck & Friends: Twenty One-Nighters,” a compilation of Albertan (including a few adopted Albertans) folk and country artists ranging from household names (assuming you’re a Canadian roots music fan) to local and regional up & comers.  Local songwriter/instrumentalist and country music aficionado Ryan “Skinny” Dyck continues to champion the endearing connection between western Canada and country music.  Look forward to a fun filled evening including many special guest artists appearances celebrating the release of this momentous album.

A seasoned purveyor of hot twang and battered heart honky tonk, Skinny Dyck is equal parts revivalist and visionary. “I love friggin Haggard, Junior Brown – and the folks that keep it fresh like Howe Gelb” remarks Skin; both elbows on the bar. An apprentice of the pedal steel guitar and an inventive penman of song, the obvious country music influences don’t serve to demystify his talent.  Following years as the principal singer/songwriter in Lethbridge roots/country outfit “Treeline,” and in the midst of a busy schedule as an in-demand pedal steel player, Dyck has set out to both embrace and challenge the boundaries of vintage and underground country music. “I like to really focus on the technical and performance elements in what are typically fairly simple songs” says Skin from the driver’s seat of his sedan. “I think in this genre – maybe every genre – it’s a certain balance of heart and craft. The heart is the love you have for music and artistic expression; the craft is the hard work you put towards mastering your trade.” The live show reflects a proportioned balance of the aforementioned, highlighted by the occasional steel guitar instrumental or a number from Johnny Paycheck’s back catalogue.  As fun as it sounds, like a neon sign burning bright on a hot August night, catch Skinny Dyck & the Chicken Catchers next chance you get.

A southern style smokehouse where we smoke everything from brisket to chicken to ribs and seafood. A southern tradition right here in southern Alberta
Description
Serving up Lethbridge’s best and only TRUE smoked barbecued meats, The Smokehouse BBQ and Bar is a true southern style joint. The 750 lbs competition style commercial smoker and multiple wood blend for smoking is just two indicators of how serious we take our art. We also use only the best Alberta raised meats. This is not a place for small appetites, although they do have an arrange of vegetarian, gluten free and kids items. The food is delicious and the prices are modest.
The interior is styled after a contemporary roadhouse and features southern style music all day long from Johnny Cash and Stevie Ray Vaughan to the Rockabilly sounds of Brian Setzer and founding rock artists like Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. In addition they have a quaint patio for sipping ice cold brews with all your friends during the summer months and a wood burning fire place inside for the winter months..
Other than huge portions and lots of cold hand selected beer they also offer their specially selected whiskeys, bourbons and wines to suit your every need.
A colorful place with a lot of character…and characters. If all this isn’t enough be sure to check out The Smokehouse’s TV’s for all your sports and PPV needs. Plus check out their stage for live entertainment from time to time. Get on it!!!

How does our barbecue get so tasty????
We start by rubbing all of our meats with our homemade spice rub. Then after letting it marinade for 24 hours we cook it slow and low using a blend of real wood smoke. This is the secret that makes our chicken, ribs, organic brisket and pork shoulder fall apart in your mouth and so tasty.
Remember that true wood smoking will turn meat pink, even chicken, but will be fully cooked because of the long cooking time in the smoker. You can try our meat dry, no sauce, or wet with any of our unique, homemade barbecue sauces.
Music is a huge part of a Southern BBQ experience so check back from time to time for live entertainment.
Enjoy our southern tradition.
