Cinema Scores hit the Southminster Stage
The Lethbridge Symphony Presents Film’s Finest Composers

Lethbridge, AB – Coming soon: the scores of the silver screen star in the second concert of the Lethbridge Symphony’s 57th Season. The Symphony proudly presents Series 2 – Adventures on Film, coming to Southminster United Church stage near you on Monday, November 20, 2017.

On the program are many of Hollywood’s symphonic hits of the past sixty years, from The Magnificent Seven to The Hunger Games. Along the way we hear classic works by John Williams, James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer, and many more. With the scores performed as symphonic suites, the concert provides a new lens through which audiences can appreciate their favourite films.

“The ‘Adventures on Film’ are exactly that; adventures,” quips Lethbridge Symphony executive director Melanie Gattiker. “The orchestra is so excited to take us on the sonic journeys we found so compelling in theatres, breathing new, musical life into them in live performance.“

To add to the experience, audience members are encouraged to dress as their favourite film characters. “Give your Halloween costume a second outing, or come up with something different – or come as you are. I’ve heard rumours that one or two of the musicians’ alter-egos might be in attendance,” notes Gattiker. “Plus, you’ll get to know more about them as they share tidbits about the pieces they’re playing.”

The Symphony returns to Southminster United Church with Kids Choir on November 29 at 5:30 & November 30 at 5:30 and 7:30. This annual event features local primary school choirs singing their hearts out with members of the orchestra. With the concerts being only about an hour and tickets only $6, it’s is a great way to get into the holiday spirit, take a refreshing break from your holiday shopping, or chase away the November blues.

The full Symphony comes together at the University of Lethbridge Theatre for two matinee and two evening performances of Tchaikovsky’s beloved holiday classic The Nutcracker on December 15, 16, and 17. Featuring ballet dancers from across Southern Alberta, and the U of L Conservatory Children’s Choirs, this collaboration will be the first time local audiences can enjoy a full production of this Christmas tradition with live music.

Tickets for Adventures on Film range from $25 - $75 and are available anytime at lethbridgesymphony.org or Monday through Friday, 1 - 5 PM by calling 403.328.6808 x 101. Discounted Compose Your Own Subscription packages are still available. Audience members aged 13 - 29 can sign up for Access Pass and receive further discounts, while those 12 and under who are accompanied by a paying adult may take advantage of the Children’s Pass.
