Fin de Fiesta Presents :

SALVAJE: An Untamed Night of Flamenco Music and Dance

“An absolutely breathtaking performance.” — The Whole Note

“Intense, passionate, emotional.” – The London Free Press

Direct from Spain - Fin de Fiesta Flamenco dance and music ensemble presents SALVAJE, an untamed new production that explores the wild, unrestrained side of one of the world’s most passionate and intense art forms: flamenco.

The searing vocals of Alejandro Mendia (Noces Gitanes, France) are accompanied by the intricate guitar arpeggios of Dennis Duffin (Ventanas, Canada) and the haunting flute melodies of Lara Wong (Vancouver/Madrid). Dancer Lia Grainger (2017 Certamen New York International Flamenco Competition finalist) brings the stage to life with fierce and sensual choreographies and improvisations and Hanser Santos Gómez (Cuba) holds down the rhythm on cajon. Deborah "La Caramelita" (Noces Gitanes, France) will also join the ensemble as a special guest dancer for this tour only.

Though they come from France, Cuba, and Canada, Fin de Fiesta’s core members all spend much of the year in Spain, collaborating with and drawing inspiration from the world’s best flamenco singers, dancers and guitarists. Flamenco in Spain draws from many cultural and historical influences, but the members of Fin de Fiesta often find themselves most drawn to the raw and improvisational “gitano” style that emerged 200 years ago from the gypsy culture of southern Spain.

The show’s name, SALVAJE, means “wild,” and pays homage to flamenco’s rough-and-tumble origins.

Since their founding in 2013, Fin de Fiesta Flamenco has played more than 90 concerts on two continents. They released their first self-titled album in the fall of 2016 and toured across Canada and France to rave reviews in 2017. This summer, they’ll bring SALVAJE to cities and towns in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. To the south of Spain and back again, Fin de Fiesta will leave you breathless, with the pulsing rhythms of flamenco beating in your heart.

Casa is the realization of a 20 year dream, shared by many in the Lethbridge arts community, to expand or replace the Bowman Arts Centre. This unique new facility far surpasses the original vision for expansion, and sets a new standard for interdisciplinary arts centres. It is about experimentation, incubation, learning and growing. Casa was built to serve a multi-generational community, with varying art skill sets and interests in all disciplines of the arts.

Designing the building was a comprehensive and collaborative process led by Nyhoff Architecture from (Calgary) working in conjunction with the local architectural firm of Ferrari Westwood Babits. The Architectural team visited numerous arts education institutions and also met with members of the local arts community to define requirements for a truly functional 42,000 square foot art centre. The resulting building design is truly impressive.

Funding for the project were provided by the Federal Build Canada Fund ($6,000,000.), the Provincial MSI Fund ($14,900,000.) and the City of Lethbridge ($200,000).
