October windy City Opry! Another line up for the books! Belle Plaine is an amazing story telling singer/songwriter and is on tour from Saskatchewan. She has an absolutely stunning voice and we are very lucky to have her play for us. Gordie Tentrees & Jaxon Haldane are no strangers to The Slice or to Lethbridge! Gordie Tentrees has played Lethbridge with his band several times and so has Jaxon in one of the most beloved Canadian country/bluegrass bands, The D Rangers!! Gordie & Jaxon have been touring this duo act together for years and I can't wait to have them on the Opry Stage. Gordie is from the Yukon and Jaxon is from Winnipeg. Quite the mix of Canadian talent we have this month!

As always the show starts promptly at 8pm with a couple songs from Shaela Miller. $10 cover charge at the door. That will get you 1 free door prize ticket. You are more than welcome to buy more! I will do door prize draws throughout the night.

Big thanks to our sponsors at Catwalk SalonSpa Official and Street Legal Records for generously donating door prizes every month and for helping advertise. Also big thanks to the Chin Up Record Club, every Monday night from 8-9pm on CKXU 88.3 FM, for advertising for us every week. Much love to you all.

AND BIG THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR COMING OUT AND SUPPORTING THE WINDY CITY OPRYS EVERY MONTH. These nights would not be possible without YOU! xoxoxo

Belle Plaine

Belle Plaine is a singer, a songwriter and an inventive musician who was raised on the Canadian prairies near the hamlet of Fosston, Saskatchewan – population: 54. The ingenuity, lonesome yearning and collaborative work ethic of country life have infiltrated her songwriting, her sound and her methods. Belle’s reverence for artists who defy categorization has led her to create a brand of roots music that combines vintage blues and swing tones of the 1940s with classic country styles made popular in the heyday of the Grand Ole Opry. Belle’s greatest strength is an unfailing ability to weave stories, genres and emotions with her formidable voice.
Twangy early influences from the family AM Radio mixed with a dozen years of classical voice training throughout Belle’s upbringing led her into studying contemporary music in college. When Belle started performing full-time, she paired her voice with instinctive songwriting and a tinder-dry wit, and that provided all the fuel required to make hearts smoulder.

“If Patsy Cline and Blossom Dearie had a love child she would sing like Belle Plaine. Belle’s voice is old timey and jazzy. It has twang, crystal bells and swing. You listen to this voice, and all of a sudden your cheatin’ heart has a very dry martini in hand, and you’re hearing something both timeless and brand new.”

Gordie Tentrees & Jaxon Haldane

International touring award nominated Canadian string bending song slinger Gordie Tentrees has arrived. This road poet, multi-instrumentalist, and master story teller brings the unexpected to stages across North America, Europe, Australia, UK & Ireland with 7 records behind him either solo or with legendary sideman Jaxon Haldane. From Celtic Connections (Glasgow, Scotland) to the National Folk Festival (Canberra, AU) his ability to hold an audience, weave melody, while juggling the dark with the light is infectious. His new 2018 release "GRIT" conveys character sketches of life struggling with adversity following up his sensational 2016 release "Less is More", which was the top 20 International Canadian album (#12). With over 550 concerts in 11 countries during the past 3 years alone, look for him in a town near you.

"If I had to make a comparison I would say Gordie Tentrees is a cross between Corb Lund and Stompin’ Tom Connors. Much like Corb Lund, Gordie has a writing style all his own, and much like Stompin Tom, I can imagine him playing anywhere – honky tonks, beer joints, large theaters or stadiums – and commanding the stage and crowd with his honesty, humor, and storytelling. Talent is talent, and it’s clear when it comes to songwriting, Gordie Tentrees has oodles to spare" ROOTS MUSIC CANADA
