It’s pretty much a given you are going to have a good time when Shred Kelly comes to town as they did May 30 for their third Lethbridge show of the year at Studio 54.
A packed house bounced around in front of the stage, dancing up a storm in time with the band members themselves, who looked blissed out as always.
They played a lot of familiar music, much from their new, award winning CD “Sing to the Night.”
They played the toe tapping title track and the other big single “Oh Family”
Sage McBride looked in her element as she stepped out from behind her keyboards to take centre stage.
Tim Newton thrashed away on his banjo and later a ukulele with a grin that light up the room.
There were calls for “I Hate Work” which they saved for near the end as usual, but they had people singing along to crowd favourite “Cabin Fever.”
My personal favourite is their song “Jewel of the North” about the burning down of the Minaki Lodge, near McBride’s hometown of Kenora, Ontario.
So it was a night of hot sweaty, fun on the dance floor thanks to some of Fernie’s finest musicians, who just won a Kootenay Music Award for best album for “Sing For the Night” as well as best live act and justifiably so.
