The second sold out Joel Plaskett show at the Geomatic Attic, which drew a younger  university age crowd, April 10, was absolutely fantastic with great stories , humour and songs. The Dartmouth, Nova Scotia singer/songwriter started solo “chanelling that Billy Joel blue-eyed soul”  with “True Patriot Love’ from his 2001 CD ‘Down at the Kyber.’
He played most of the tracks from his big 2005 album La De Da as well as several from his new triple CD ‘Three’
 And he took a lot of requests including ‘Fashionable People’ from his 2007 Cd “Ashtray Rock” which drew huge cheers.
 There’s not many people who can captivate a crowd  the way Plaskett did just by standing there with his guitar, cracking jokes and telling stories, but things got even better when he brought  his musical compadre Peter Elkas on stage to add guitar and  later some melodica solos.

Then they traded mini-keyboard solos and joked about it.
The first set was  pretty subdued, but they took off in the second set as they played some obscurities like one Plaskett was contracted to write fro the CBC about the Cabot Trail called ‘On The Rail.’ Several of the new cuts from ‘Three’ were highlights including “You let Me Down,” “Wishful Thinking,” and “Rolling, Rolling, Rolling.”
He spoke of touring with the Bare Naked ladies and deadpanned  about how he was working on controlling his cursing at their shows and spoke of trying to get Tone Loc to rap on one of his songs. He also reminisced about playing the Tongue N’ Groove  in support of his La De Da CD and dedicated a song to Tongue N’ Groove’s Corrie Brough who walked in just after it ended.
 He ended  with his big underground hit “Nowhere With You,” and then was called back for an encore and a couple of requests.
