It’s a brand new year and a brand new decade. So my the best thing that happened to you last year be the worst thing that happens to you this year.
It is already looking like a great year for live entertainment.
If you haven’t planned your New Year’s Eve, there is plenty happening for everyone.
Adequate plays their annual New Year’s Eve party at the Owl, Dec. 31. So get ready to get funky. There is no cover for the show.
The Slice embraces the ’80s with local musicians including Bridgette Yarwood, Candee Burke, James Swinney, Raz Bruce, Mark Hall, Braeden Rouse, Keilan Hakstol, Sarah Wright, Ian Morrice, Tyler Vanden Dool revisiting the ’80s.
Pop’s Pub West welcomes Ali Hawkins back home to play New Year’s Eve with ’90s rock and pop quartet Uncovered. There is no cover for that show either.
Local blues rock band the Steve Keenan band play the Average Joes, for New Year’s Eve beginning around 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.
Local rock band Band of Brothers will be performing at the 1010 Pub. There is a $10 cover for that show.
On the west side, Cal Toth presents his Duelling Pianos show at Mojos Pub at 8 p.m. Tickets for that show are $25.
He will be all warmed up because he is also playing dinner music at the Coast , one of many pricier shows featuring a banquet. Toth is at the Coast during a five course LA Chefs custom menu beginning at 6 p.m.
After that winds up, the Chevelles will rock you into the new year. Tickets are $85.
It seems obvious to bring back swing music for the ’20s, so that is exactly what Swing Bridge Dance club are doing at their home 18 13th St N. , Dance the night away with the Lethbridge Little Big Band. If you don’t know how to swing dance, this is an excellent opportunity to learn how. There will be a dance lesson at 8 p.m.. The live music is at 9 and there will be food and drink and all sorts of fun winding up with a champagne lunch at midnight. Admission is $50 per person or a VIP bundle at $65.
If you’re feeling in the mood for Italian, the Italian Canadian Club features lots of food and music by the Bamboo Guppies. Dinner is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50.
Hippodrome holds court for new year’s Eve again at Casino Lethbridge. There will be a dinner buffet at 7 p.m. with the band beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets are $74.95.
The major hotels have more expensive events.
Go country with Trevor Panczak and Rough Stock at the Signature Sandman downtown.
There will be a prime rib buffet at 7:30 p.m., with the music beginning at 9:30 p.m. A midnight lunch and champagne will follow at midnight . Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $99.99.
Didi’s Playhaus features a New Year’s Eve Panti Raid beginning at 10 p.m. if you just want to dance. There is no cover though you have to be a member to attend.
There are also a lot of big concerts already scheduled.
Fred Eaglesmith returns to Lethbridge to wind up the Geomatic Attic’s impressive spring line up at at the Sterndale Bennett Theatre, June 23. Their Spring also included Steve Dawson and The Black Hen Roadshow on June 3, Shayne Koyczan April 9, Ray Bonneville, March 12, Reuban and the Dark, Feb. 29 , Amy Helm, Feb. 4 and Whitehorse opening the season at the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod, Jan 29.
The Enmax Centre and Yates Theatre already have big shows scheduled beginning with The Glorious Sons, who hit the big stage for St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. Chicago the musical is hot on it’s feet on March 25.
They also host the Matt Good band and Ria Mae, April 4 as part of Good’s Moving Walls tour.
Great Big Sea’s Alan Doyle plus Kelly Prescott play the Yates Sterndale Bennett Theatre, Feb. 25.
The Enmax has a busy May with Cheap Trick and ZZ Top on May 6 and High Valley and the Eli Young band playing country music, May 25.
One Bad Son has rescheduled their Average Joes show for Jan. 30.
Other cool shows announced include the Real McKenzies returning to the Slice, March 16. Geoff Berner returns to the Slice on April 16. And more are sure to be more announced.
Later on, locally, Makiisma has two shows scheduled— a full band show at the Slice on Jan. 11 and Feb 7 at the Slice.
The Lethbridge Symphony’s annual collaboration with the Lethbridge Opera Society is Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 when they will be performing Gilbert and Sullivan.
The symphony collaborates with Trevor Panczac for their annual love Notes Fundraiser, Feb. 8.
In the next couple of weeks there are all sorts of things happening. There is comedy aplenty in the next couple of weeks. Good Times celebrates a year of bringing live comedy to Lethbridge with a double blast of New York born comedian Mike Dambra.
Dambra plays two shows on Jan 3 at 7 p.m and 9:3- p.m. on Jan. 30 as well as Jan. 4. Tickets are $20.
The fun doesn’t stop there. Prairie Huckster play roots and folk at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan 3.
The Plaid Ramblers play Casino Lethbridge, Jan. 3 and 4.
Jelina Marinkov, Ivan Filipovic, Renate Henc play Balkan party 4. January 2020 at the 1010 Pub, Jan. 4. Tickets are$30. The party begins at 8 p.m.
And if you missed Hippodrome n New Year’s Eve, they return to the Slice, Jan. 4.
A couple of talented new local bands put a modern twist on the old bands as bands concept at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan 4. Bands as bands: Toronto 2005 features Joshua Beebe and the Forest Orchestra as Arcade Fire, Fawns as Death From Above 1979, Bailey Kate and her band as Feist and Bretton Lee John as the Rural Albertan Advantage. Admission is by donation.
