Musical friends give Leigh Doerksen a tour boost

An array of talent gathered on stage to help him raise money for an upcoming summer tour.

I only caught a few of them including a strong set by the Necessities an all too brief set by local bluesman Papa King and a solid, ambient set of rock from Doerksen.

King, who also played at the Tongue n Groove, April 23 was backed by a pretty killer band including Doerksen on lead guitar and bassist Daniel Enns as well as a drummer, whose name I missed.

King started with a Dr. Johnish gravel voiced version of his own song “Busy Boy Blues,” as well as a hot version of “Baby Please Don’t Go.”

Brenna Lowrie was a highlight as well, though I only heard her sing background on an excellent version of Neil Young’s “Ohio.”
Jesse Northey and rapper Mase One were also on the bill among others.
