This week is a week dominated by pretty exotic live music from traditional Polish, to alternate folk, to music influenced by Beat Poets and American urban saints.
But for something more mainstream, modern rock band My Darkest Days will be coming to the Stone on Saturday, Aug. 13.

 My Darkest Days are a modern rock band signed to Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger’s 604 Records who have a couple huge radio hits including “Move Your Body” and  “Porn Star Dancing,” which features former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde playing on the track.

 Double Jack won the opening slot for the show after winning a special band wars, Aug. 5 barely beating out Caste of Shadows, among an outstanding cast of competitors including the likes of  Lock N Load, Bent 8 and She Lies.

 Tickets for My Darkest Days cost $30. Doors open at 9 p.m with the show beginning at 10 p.m.
For classic rockers, Sweet will be at Average Joes, Thursday, Aug. 11 to play an array of their  ’70s hits including “Ballroom Blitz,” Little Willie,”, “Love is Like Oxygen” and “Fox on the Run.” Tickets for the show cost $40.

Local jazz/ pop/ rock band Dalliance Elixir will be opening the show as they won  Average Joes ‘open for the bands’ contest a couple months ago. The show begins at 8:30 p.m.
For alternative rockers and garage punks, local trio the Moby Dicks are embarking on a cross Canadian tour with Vancouver’s Needles/Pins beginning with a show tonight at the Owl Acoustic Lounge. There is no cover for the show, which is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.

Hamilton based singer songwriter Chris Adeney aka Wax Mannequin is enjoying his latest tour across Canada with his old friends the Burning Hell.

 They are supporting a brand new vinyl split  seven inch record “Hear Some Evil,”  including  Wax Mannequin”s “Black Bells,”  The Burning Hell’s “My Name is Matthias” and pretty cool cover of ’80s hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

Wax Mannequin plays the Slice, Aug.12, and while the Burning Hell are joining him for most of the tour, they won’t be joining him for the Lethbridge leg of the tour.

 But for exotic music, Olenka and the Autumn Lovers will be coming to the Tongue n Groove, Tuesday, Aug. 16.
 The band blends a cornucopia of influences from traditional Polish folk songs to Wilco style alt-country with a lot of energy and pop sensibilities thrown into the mix as well.

She is excited about her first Western Canadian tour with the entire band —  Cellist Kelly Wallraff, violinist Sara Froese, multi-instrumentalist Simon LaRochette who alternates between guitar  and bass and numerous other instruments, bassist/ guitarist Evan Brodie and drummer Jeff Moon.
Jamie Perry better known as alt country troubadour Bocephus King is back with a new CD with a strong world music influence. He’ll be returning to the Slice. Sunday, Aug. 14  to introduce audiences to the new music.

He hopes audiences will share his admiration for  American “saints” like bluesman Willie Dixon and Neal Cassady, who was the inspiration of Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road,” as well as numerous other beat poets’ works. He is touring on his soon to be released new CD “Willie Dixon, God Damn,” which will come to the Slice, Aug. 14 with special guest Charlie Hase on pedal steel guitar.
There is a $10 cover for the show which begins at 9 p.m.

 And just announced, folk/ pop singer Sarah Burton will be back at the Slice, Aug. 11 with Ingrid Gatin.
For a taste of Australia, Ganja Giri — Tribal didgeridoo dance experience will be at the Tongue N Groove, Aug. 13 to bring their blend of rock and dance music to Lethbridge.  There will be a lot of energy, funky bass, hypnotic rhythm and lots of didgeridoo.

The show begins at 10 p.m. Tickets are $20.

If you love the ukulele and who doesn’t, be at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 12 for a ukulele appreciation night featuring several local musicians playing ukulele,  and other ukuleles which have been decorated by local artists. The ukuleles will be auctioned off to raise money for the Alberta Children”s hospital. The event begins at about 9 p.m. there is no cover.

  Aug. 13 is also a good night for Lions at the Slice as two bands featuring Lions in their names will be performing.

Calgary rock trio The Lions along with Hunger Hush will be playing with Lethbridge’s own Jesse and the Dandelions. There is an eight dollar cover for the show.
