University of Lethbridge based community radio station CKXU 88.3 FM celebrated their love of vinyl and live music, Sept. 17 by not only selling off much of their vinyl collection, but with live music in Galt Gardens.
Just to amend that, they were selling their extra vinyl records which they can’t play as much of it was Top 40, which they can’t play under their FM license.
But a lot of people went home happy with bags full of lost treasures including lots of old metal and ’80s/ ’90s pop and indie-rock, some jazz and quite a bit of classical music.
Local garage rock band Fist City started off the live music part of the day. They were followed by a solid set of progressive rock/ metal from Lustre Creame.
The rest of the live entertainment was provided by out of town, mostly Calgary based rock/ garage rock bands and one unusual keyboards and guitar duo.
Stalwart Sons played an impressively loud set. CKXU earplugs were selling pretty well.
One which impressed me was the synthesizer heavy Teledrome, who had an early ’80s new wave, gothic feel to their sombre music, which was reminiscent of bands like Sisters of Mercy.
