New Brunswick based blues rocker Ross Neilsen and his band the Sufferin’ Bastards doesn’t stop.
In the past year since he played Lethbridge he has released two new CDs — albeit live albums— Live at the Acoustic Grill in Picton, Ontario and an electrified live album he recorded at Edmonton Blues club Blues on Whyte called “What You Need Volume 2.
“ We had six days of shows at Blues On Whyte, so we thought it would be a good idea to record a live CD there. So we brought a guy in Friday and Saturday to record seven sets,” Neilsen said from Saskatoon, where he said he was busy “tormenting” his family there and playing a few gigs as well.
He is taking a quick breather before resuming another extensive tour, which will bring him to the Slice, Oct. 19.
He is pleased with the Blues on Whyte live CD called What You Need Vol. 2.
“It’s really high energy. We kept most of one set and a couple from Saturday afternoon, seven or eight tunes and a full 50-55 minutes. We wanted to capture the feel of the live show,” he said adding most of the songs chosen were from his last studio CD “Redemption.”
While the trio, Neilsen, bassist Shawn Worden and drummer Karl Gans, can play a sweet acoustic set, a venue like the Slice calls out for them to rock it blues style.
He is enjoying his extensive 10 week tour, which won’t take him back home until Dec. 10.
“It’s been a great tour so far. We were playing Buds on Broadway in Saskatoon and Big Dave McLean and Doc MacLean were in the audience listening. And it was nice to see them there because they’re the real deal. they’re the reason people like me do what we do,” he said.
Though he already has two new CDs under his belt. He is already looking ahead to the next studio CD.
“We‘re just collecting resources to record in 2012. We definitely want it out by fall,” he said.
