The Slice was sold out, as expected for the return of Elliott Brood, Tuesday, Nov. 1. But a fantastic country rock band, One Hundred Dollars opened the show.

Lead singer Simone Schmidt showed off some beautifully sexy cigarette smoke and whiskey soaked pipes.The tight band’s older country sound drew a number of two steppers to the floor in front of the stage.

 Everybody was waiting for an electrified Elliott Brood and crammed in front of the stage for the first banjo driven song.

The trio has gone electric, but the main difference, other than a full drum kit and keyboard set up was one electric guitar.

They still sounded like classic Elliott Brood, with a simple, but effective countryish, rock tinged sound marked by distinctive, clenched jaw vocals similar to Rodney DeCroo and solid beat, which had everybody moving.

The set included much of their  latest CD “Days Into Years,” as well as several tracks from their more “death country” inspired early days. “Will They Bury Us,” was one of many highlights, and a crowd favourite.
 I can see why they are so popular here, because they put on an intense show you can’t take your eyes and ears off of.
