Dave McCann and the Firehearts officially released their new CD, “Dixiebluebird” during a laid back show at the Geomatic Attic for approximately 50 people, Sept. 12.

And the hot band, electric guitarist Dave Bauer, bassist Pete Loughlin, pedal steel player Charlie Hase and drummer Tim Williams turned down the volume for this “left wing” listening room, so the audience could hear every single note and story McCann told. Some popular crowd favourites are among those on the new cd including “Road to Cain” and “Bloodpines” but he also played old favourites like “Joe’s Bones,”  “Tinseltown” and “Country Medicine.” Some of the new ones are sure to be future favourites like “Broken Bugs,” “Fireheart” and “Inferno.”
In between songs, McCann told stories about being held up while filling up with gas in East St. Louis and deciding to change the name of the band to the Firehearts after being confronted by an angry April Wine fan to explain why they were playing in Vulcan instead of the popular Canadian rockers a few years ago.
Their version of the mandolin tinged “Inferno ” also had a really neat Hawaiian feel thanks to some creatively used pedal steel guitar.
