Open mics begin another big week

This week, begins now, with a couple choice open mics. First of all, Greg Gomola is hosting his regular open mic at the 1010 Pub tonight, Sept. 22. Downtown, Calgary hip hop influenced rockers Anthony Blaine and the Bare Bones Orchestra are hosting the open mic at the Slice, Sept. 22. They will be playing with Black Diamond Bay the next day, Sept. 24.
 On Wednesday, Sept. 23 Gabrel Olsen hosts the open mic at Henotic. Organizers welcome weird and unusual instruments for that one, and on Friday, Sept 25, the Lethbridge Folk Club has their open stage at the Wolf’s Den.
 It is also a pretty big week for big shows.

Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre’s official DJs, DJ Jam and DJ Fresh will be playing a student appreciation night at the Blarney Stone as part of the Puff and Pass Tour, Sept. 23. There is no cover for the show. There is a good show for metalheads of all ages at the Zoo at the University of Lethbridge, Sept. 23 as well. Several bands are on the bill including Mexico Kabron, Fetal Butchery, the Parapsychotic, Jesus and the Superfriends and Bi-Monthly E-Mail Newsletter. Admission is $10 for this all ages show, which begins at 7 p.m..
The next day, Sept. 24, the Blarney Stone welcomes Canadian rocker Bif Naked.  The show begins at 8 p.m. with special guests Soul Side In and Enterlude. Tickets cost $25.But if you like country music, Canadian country stalwarts Prairie Oyster are playing the Yates Theatre, Sept. 23 as well.

 High powered blues rock is on the bill at the Slice, Sept. 26 as the Mason Rack Band return to the Slice for what is sure to be an insanely energetic show with Fat Baby Jake, Sept. 26 at the Slice. If you haven’t seen them before, don’t miss them this time.
 Singer-songwriter Brock Zeman, who was discovered by Prairie Oyster guitarist Keith Glass is at the Slice with Trina Nestibo, Sept. 24.
If you missed As well, there is a sweet AC DC tribute act called Who made Who at Average Joes, Sept. 25. That is competing with another big rock show at Henotic with the Ex-Boyfriends and We Are The City as well as Jesse and the Dandelions who are also at  Henotic the night before with Joal Kamps.
