I arrived at the Slice just in time for Oh My Darling, April 5,” which started at 10 p.m. They had about 50 people there listening intently I was glad I stayed as I was going to leave for another gig. But they came out with a bang, opening with “Fly Around,” a highlight from their new CD “Sweet Nostalgia.” Oh My Darling playing energetic bluegrass/ folk music. Photo by Richard Amery

The Winnipeg quartet sang spine tingling, hair raising vocal harmonies and delicately intertwined  stand- up bass, fiddle, guitar and banjo around their own unique blend of bluegrass, folk. Fiddler Rosalyn Dennett was impressive, stomping in place, singing while fiddling.

Bassist Marie-Josee Dandeneau, who was celebrating her birthday, also tapped out a rhythm on an microphoned board as she got lost in the groove though the band got her to step forward and sing one of the band’s French songs.

Allison DeGroot got to shine on the banjo throughout and sang lead on a couple. She lead the band through a stunning instrumental “Pixou Falls” which she wrote near Thompson, Manitoba
Guitarist Vanessa Kuzina  told a story about her Nana and lead them through one of her songs “Won’t Need My Shoes (on Heaven’s Floor).
