Calgary born transgendered musician Rae Spoon entertained a good sized crowd at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Oct. 25 with stories, folk songs, and computer powered techno-influenced music.
The show began with a short story from Spoon’s new book of short stories “First Spring Grass Fire,” about attending a first concert from evangelist Billy Graham and dressing up in a skirt. Spoon then sang a song a cappella then put on an acoustic guitar and sang some more folk inspired music in about love including “Love is a Hunter,” a newer song called “Ghost of a Boy,” then a pretty inspirational number called “There is A Light (But it’s Not for Everyone).
A computer at Spoon’s feet added extra beats and rhythm.
Spoon moved towards more political material about gender distinctions which had the audience singing along “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered.”
Spoon then began some more techno inspired music, which is about the time I had to leave.
Brenna Lowrie and Evan Eushenko opened up the show with set of original material.
