Concerts for good causes including Movember this week

 A big event to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer research takes place at the Owl Acoustic Loinge, Nov. 15. Candiana country musician Tim Hus and his band will be performing at the event, which begin at 8 p.m.. In addition to the music, there will be a  silent auction and prizes for best moustache and Man of Movember.

A couple big events takes place at La Cité des Prairies, Nov. 17 at La Cité Des Prairies where  the L’ACFA régionle de Lethbridge/ Medicine Hat present Le Coup de Coeur Francophone, a music festival dedicated to the discovery of new trends which promotes and spreads French song.”

172 shows will take place across Canada and the ACFA régionale de African reggae artist Kibwe will be opening the show. He is originally from Lubumbashi in Katanga. Kibwe is an artist, musician, entrepreneur, politician and businessman.  Kibwe hopes to raise awareness about violence and poverty.  He performs for numerous benefit concerts and has created his own clothing line company.


Headliner Patrice Michaud will present his new show: Le Triangle des Bermudes which includes a lot of humour and storytelling Since the launch of his debut album in spring 2011, Patrice Michaud has been touring the roads of Quebec, France, Belgium and Switzerland. With more than 100 performances, Michaud is part of a very select club of two or three artists from “La Belle Province” that has performed the most throughout the year.


Tickets cost $20 for members, $25 for non-member adults, $10 for students. The show begins at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 17.
 La Cite Des Prairies also hosts the long awaited premiere of Lethbridge area filmed horror movie the harvestman. 5205 studios has been working on the movie for several years. Doors open at 7 p.m., the movie begins at 7:30, Friday, Nov. 16.

The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra also has two big shows this week.
 The second edition of the Chamber Series is Friday, Nov. 16, featuring Margaret Mezei on clarinet. the performance features  Haydn's String Quartet, Op.64 No. 6 in E-Flat Major, Alberta Composer Albert Bachmann’s “Behind the Red Door.”. The performance begins at 8 p.m., Nov. 16.

The entire symphony explores your favourite movie music from the past 40 years of the silver screen on Monday, Nov. 19. Expect selections from Star Trek, Star Wars, Forrest Gump and a lot more. The performance begins at 8 p.m. at the Southminster United Church.


For something completely different, there is another big rap show happening, Nov 17. Madchild of Swollen Members returns to play Lethbridge with Xzibit. Strong V, F-Bomb, Sin Sane and DJ Fuze will also be performing.
 It begins at Studio 54  at 9 p.m. Tickets are $40.
There will be a “Fun” show at the Slice, Nov. 19 as the Tom Fun Orchestra return to lethbridg ewith the Strumbelas. There is a $10 cover for the show.
 The Slice also has a jazz jam, Nov. 14 this week featuring HBO 3 (Paul Holden, James Oldenburg and Brad Brouwer) Darryl Düus will be hosting a blues jam at the Slice tonight. Düus also plays the Ol Acoustic Lounge, Nov. 16. 

And don’t forget regular open mics happening at Bo Diddly’s on Tuesday and Satuurday afternoons, plus at the Trianon Wine Gallery, Thursday at 8 p.m. and at Jimmy’s Pub on Friday night.

 Several big rock/ punk/ metal concerts, just announced inlcude  the return of Fist City. They play the Slice, Nov. 16 with Cagary rock/ punk band Stalwart Sons.

 The Turncoats also return to town this week. They play the Slice with Lustre Creame and New Brunswick based rock band the Motorleague, Nov. 17.
