Great music for good causes this week

It is a relatively slower week compared to the last week, however this is a good week of good music for good causes.
 The Slice hosts two benefit concerts this week.


 Numerous local musicians are playing the Slice, Jan. 26 to raise a money for Murray Nelson, a prominent Lethbridge musician who had a heart attack in November. He is one of several local musicians who have had to deal with health problems over the past couple years.  It will also help raise awareness and drum up interest in a charitable foundation to help other musicians in Lethbridge who suffer from health issues or accidents.


 The musicians scheduled to play 15 minute sets include blues band Driving While Blind, who often play at Jimmy’s Pub and Brasserie, as well as Shaela Miller, Brian Shockey aka Boulder, Dooley, the Dirti Speshuls, bluesman Darryl Düus, George Arsene, Salem Abraha, Virgil Skye and Mark Nelson.


 Admission is a minimum of five dollars for the show at the Slice, which will begin at 8 .m.
Hippodrome will be playing the Slice on Sunday, Jan 27 to raise money or another good cause — The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta.

 The popular Lethbridge funk/ R and B and disco band take the stage at  8 p.m.. There will be a $20 cover.

For something a little more laid back, Steve Coffey returns to Lethbridge to play the Owl Acoustic Lounge to play his own brand of earthy country and roots music, Jan, 25.  Pete Watson and Joel Bryant play their  style of roots/ country and blues at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan. 26.


 Also in the country vein, the Blue Ridge Mountain Country Society holds their monthly country jam at the Moose Hall, beginning at 1 p.m., Jan 27. There is a also an open mic at the Lethbridge College Cave on Thursday. Devin Gergel hosts the open stage, which begins at 8 p.m.. The Lethbridge Folk club also has their open mic on Friday. And don’t forget all of the others sprinkled throughout the week.


 If you like the blues, local bluesman Darryl Düus hosts the open mic at the Slice tonight.
The other big show of the week is also a blues show at the Slice featuring Australian born, Chicago based bluesman Michael Charles. It is Thursady, Jan. 24 beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m.
