Hayes Carll, rap and Band Wars among this week’s highlights

The Geomatic Attic begins a busy March this week by bringing back Austin, Texas troubadour Hayes Carll, March 10. He is still touring on his latest CD KMAG YOYO but has also re-released his debut CD “Flowers and Liquor.” He will be playing an acoustic show at the Geomatic Attic, March 10 beginning at 8 p.m. sharp. There is a lot of country type music happening this week.
 The Coal Creek Boys play a rare local gig at  Average Joes, March 9 with the Jesse Roads band. Country musician Lori Kole returns to the Casino Lethbridge this weekend as well.
 If you like folk music, the Owl Acoustic Lounge has a night of protest songs scheduled for March 9.
 For more alternative folk, The Owl also brings back Spencer Jo and the River Ramble with No Famous Death,  March 8.
 On the other hand, indie rockers will want to be at the Slice March 9 for Jesse and the Dandelions, Old Folks Home and Hunger Hush.


 It is also a great week for rap shows, with two big ones happening. First Nations rapper Joey Stylez performs at Studio, March 8 with Rayne from Rednation and local rappers Strong V, Amadeus, KJ and DJ Fuze. Advance tickets are $20 with the show beginning at 9 p.m.

The next night Grammy Award winning rapper Method Man from the Wu Tang Clan brings his Purple Kush tour to Studio, March 9.  StrongV, Pyke, H-Bomb, Rise and DJ Fuze will also be performing. Tickets are $45.


 The other big event this week is the Lethbridge College Student’s Association Band Wars in the Barn, March 8. An eclectic mix of musicians will be playing for a first prize of  $800, second prize of $200. There will be a variety of music from indie rock like the Outlets, Bronx Cheer, Brodyr and the Utilities, metal from Death Pledge and Penitentz, classic metal from Shocked Standards, punk pop from Sophomore Jakes and rap from Furious D.
 Admission is five dollars for the show which begins at 7 p.m. March 8 at the Lethbridge College Barn.
 There is also an excellent metal/ hard rock show at the Slice, Sunday, March 10 featuring  Edmonton’s Black Mastiff, local bands the Void and Lustre Creame and Barrie  based metal/ rock duo Indian Handicrafts.
