It went from classic rock to weird blues rock at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, April 18.  “Too Bad He Kisses Like a Girl,”  who changed their name at the beginning of the show to “Desert Fathers,” decided to do something different — really different.

The supergroup combined the forces of blues rock duo Church and progressive rock trio Lustre Creame.

The two drummers, Church’s Dan Puurveen and Lustre Creame’s Chris Lipinski  sat face to face behind their drum its set in front of the stage, while Aaron Trozzo, Leigh Doerksen and bassist Jeff  Orriss laid down a grungy blues flavoured groove.

 Something like that could have very easily turned into a complete train wreck, but not when the musicians are this talented. The two drummers listened intently to each other and held back while the other was playing. One would ride the cymbals while the other rattled the toms.

 On stage, Orriss laid down a stoner rock inspired groove while Trozzo and Doerksen played harmonized riffs and leads, occasionally taking turns to sing lyrics of some sort which were drowned out by the music.
