Slice Girls Rock camp Yeah Dads/ Amy Bronson  with betterhalf, Shaela Miller
Several local musicians were raising money at the Slice, May 24 for a new musical venture for young women — the Lethbridge Girls Rock Camp.

The week long day camp, running  July 22-26, will be a place where girls aged 8-18 will be able to learn how to play a new instrument or  new techniques on an old instruments. They will spend the morning learning their instruments and work on songs either solo or with their bands in the afternoon.

 A new local band, the Yeah Dads featuring Eric Sharp and James Phelen on guitar and vocals, bassist  Nick Hay and drummer Brenna Lowrie opened the show.

They played energetic garage rock which sounded like a mix of Sloan and the Stokes with a touch of Weezer and quite a bit of Queens of the Stone Age for guitar solos.

 They made a great impression on the approximately 30 people there at the beginning of the night.

While I missed betterhalf and Shaela Miller, I was excited to hear Amy Bronson again as I haven’t heard her play for years.

She has been living out of the country for a while, but hasn’t lost her touch. She played some nimble fingered guitar leads as she sang  folky originals, many from her CD  “I’m Allergic to this Deodorant.” He voice has  matured pleasantly  and smoothly since her last visit home.
