Much of his new CD is about his mother’s battle with cancer, which could have meant for a depressing evening.
But it was anything but at the Slice, May 27.

Antoniuk and his band played a solid set of alt country/ folk which had a beautiful groove and radiated happiness even during a plethora of songs about a very sad subject.

They sounded like a mix of Lou Reed and Pink Floyd in the band’s laid back jams.He told stories about the struggle and praised his sister for helping their mom as she battled cancer.

His lovely and talented wife and keyboardist Jen Lane was conspicuously absent from the band, so he explained she was at home recovering from an ankle injury then played a song he wrote for her called “Jenny.”
A highlight of the show was when he brought up Lethbridge musician Matthew Robinson who plays on his album, to sing a couple songs with him.
The duo worked together well, which was to be expected. Robinson added extra guitar and haunting vocal harmonies.
