Thursday hopping with happenings this week

Everything happening this week happens on Thursday, or at least it seems that way.
There are several smaller shows and three big shows happening beginning with the Geomatic Attic’s annual summer blast off show. This year the popular summer event is a fundraiser for the YWCA Harbour House. The Lethbridge Kinsmen will be having a barbecue and selling refreshments. As usual there is an excellent slate of music beginning at 5:45 p.m. with Karen Romanchuk, who also plays the Mocha Cabana Friday and Saturday.

Photo by Richard Amery p.m., the Shaela Miller Threesome get  started at 7 p.m. followed by Vancouver based rockabilly musician Cousin Harley and Saskatoon roots collective The Deep Dark Woods end this at 8:45 p.m.
 Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the gate or you can buy a block of tickets for $350 and  they will put up your organization's banner on the fence.
 As a bonus, cyclists get a free beer and burger.


 If you aren’t done rocking, Canadian ’80s  metal icons Helix play Casino Lethbridge  at 8 p.m. on June 20.
For people who like rockabilly and Tom Waits, Johnny Good plays the Owl Acoustic Lounge on June 20.  He has been described as  “Etta James singing Tom Waits music.”


And if that isn’t enough, Jesse and the Dandelions with Ottawa area based indie rock band Hollerado play Bo Diddly’s at approximately 9:30 p.m.Tickets are $20. In the same vein, indie rock band We are the City are at the Slice, June 21 with the Boreal Sons. There is a $10 cover for the show.


 There are several other interesting events next week including pride fest, of which the many activities include Amy Bronson  and the Ruby Plumes performing at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, June 18.


 There is also an excellent progressive rock show at the Slice June 21 with We Are the City and Hannah Epperson, June 21.  Also for something a little loud, check out the Ruby Plumes and Calgary rock band Go For the Eyes,  who return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, June 22.  Also on June  22, there will be a good stoner rock and metal show featuring Saskatchewan’s Chronobot and local stoner rock band DIRT at the Slice.


The Slice also has Saskatchewan roots rock band the Snake Oil Salesmen, June 19.
 The Owl also welcomes back blues/ roots band the A.W. Cardinal Band, June 21.


 Winnipeg old time music/ folk quartet Oh My Darling celebrate  St. Jean Baptiste Day in pavan Park ( 110-62 Ave North) , June 21 with  the French Canadian Centre. The show begins at 6 p.m. There is no charge .


 Local folk/ art rock band the Left Behinds also release their CD this week at the NAAG Gallery, June 22 with special guests the Drama Nutz and Jesse and the Dandelions Admission is five dollars. The show begins at 8 p.m.


The other big event this week is on Monday, June 24 when Chicks With Picks returns to the Slice. This year the performers include Shaela Miller, Brenna Lowrie, folk musician Carolyn Mark and Hank and Lily. Never afraid to dare to be different, their new CD “Crank City” combines rock music with disco music. The ensuing tour includes dancers and new costumes as well.
