Lots of New Year’s Eve rock and roll and more this week

 There are several options  for celebrating the end of 2013 with some live music.
 Recently announced gigs include an ugly sweater party at Average Joes featuring local rock band the Raw Dogs. It begins at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover.


 If you want to celebrate New Year’s country style, check out the Velvet Touch who play the Moose hall. Tickets are $20. There will be  cocktails from 5-7 p.m., dinner at  7 p.m. and two stepping fun beginning at 8 p.m.


 A very cool free show is at Bully’s if you like  your  rock and roll with a whole lot of horns as Calgary musician Pete Fischer and the Hurricanes perform beginnign at 9 p.m.

Undefined will be rocking the blues at Jimmy’s Pub. For more psychedelic, funky rock, check out Cosmic Charley at the Owl Acoustic Lounge.
 Also in the rock vein, Queen of the Worms, featuring Tyler Bird on guitar and vocals will be at the Slice. There will be a $10 cover for the show.



The Bamboo Guppies will also be playing rock and roll at the The Italian Canadian Club the annual  New Years Eve dinner and dance, Dec. 31.
 Doors open at 7 p.m., Dinner is at 8 p.m. and the Bamboo Guppies will be playing after that. Tickets are $35 each. Contact Vicky at (403) 381-7947 to reserve tickets.
 

Another big dinner and dance night features the Chevelles who play the Coast Hotel.
 Dinner of rainbow sorbet and Beef tenderloin will begin at 6 p.m. as Cal Toth entertains with dinner music.
 

The Chevelles will bring the house down after that. Tickets are $80. Call 403-320-0072 for more information and to get tickets.


For something with a little jazz, Casino Lethbridge features dinner and the New Year’s Eve Roaring ’20 party featuring the Westside Jazz Messengers. There will be a three course dinner, party favours and even showgirls. It begins at 6:30 p.m. Also for jazz music, Dana Honey plays the Mocha Cabana for New Year’s Eve.

As expecting coming off Christmas, things slow down a little this week.
 But one key show to catch, especially if you are a rock and roll fan, is Southern Ontario band Public Animal, who play the Slice, Jan. 2 on probably their only trip out west this year
 The keyboard powered juggernaut features members of C’mon, Tricky Woo and Bela Clava.
Other highlights this week take place at the Owl Acoustic Lounge. Jay Bowcott plays the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan. 3 while Michael Coughlan returns to the Owl, Jan. 4.

Classical/ jazz guitarist Dale Ketcheson returns to   the Mocha Cabana this weekend, Jan. 3 and 4 as well. And country music fans will enjoy Tim and Curt at the Casino, Jan. 3 and 4 as well. Don’t forget Steve Keenan’s Friday night blues jam at Honkers, Jan. 3. And the Lethbridge Folk Club has the first bluegrass jam of the new year, Jan. 3 at the Wolf’s Den as well.
