Lots to do on New Year’s Eve

It’s the last night of the ‘nought’ so spend the last day of 2009  and the decade out on the town checking out  some fantastic live music.  If you want to dance, check out Hippodrome at  the Lethbridge Casino. They had a couple fantastic shows over the past couple weeks.
 For country music fans, Trevor Panczak and Rough Stock are at Average Joes. The $30 tickets include appetizers. Richard Doerksen has a mellow set at the Mocha Cabana beginning at  7 p.m., for those looking for a laid back and early New Year’s Eve. The Ben Brown Trio will also be playing at Ric’s Grill in Paul Kype and Texas Flood are only one of several New Year’s Eve gigs. Photo by Richard Amerythe water tower for a special masquerade ball. There is no cover for the show which begins at 10 p.m.
There are also lots of options  for those who want to rock. The Chevelles are playing Bully’s, plus both Scores North and South have live music, with 2 Cubic Feet at Scores North and  Dated Delay at Scores South. The $15 cover gets you into both shows.
 For blues fans, Paul Kype and Texas Flood  will be playing with some of their friends, who will be jamming at the Slice.
Also in the blues vein, Generation Landslide will be playing a special steak and lobster dinner at Beaches Pub and grill for New Year’s Eve. Tickets cost $30
 And for something  a little bit Elvis, Elvis impersonator  Robin Kelly is at HBs Lounge. The $40 tickets  include a buffet and champagne.

 And Henotic  is bringing in several DJs, Kriss Doll, Big Delicious, Mollyfi, MC Twist and a burlesque shows  at midnight with Craso Burlsque. Tickets cost $20 in advance. All of the money  goes to a special foundation for people  who have suffered  long term disabilities due to  skiing and snowboarding.
 For something  even more laid back, the Blarney Stone is hosting illusionist Sheldon Casavant. A prime rib dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with the show beginning at  9 p.m. Tickets cost $45 including dinner and champagne plus party favours.
For families, the Galt Museum is hosting a dinosaur sleepover beginning at 6:30 p.m.  for kids aged 7-11. There will be snacks and a lot of activities for the whole family at 7 p.m., then the kids will have  a lot of different activities including behind the scenes tours, movies, snacks  and other surprises. It costs  $60 per child, $50  for annual pass holders or $100 for two children from the same family, $95 for annual pass holders. Breakfast will be supplied in the morning. Also this week, Devin Gergel hosts Henotic’s last open mic of the year on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
 Red Light District is back at the Slice for  New Year’s Day. The Slice hosts Unzipped the next day.
 And if you didn’t get enough Elvis on New Year’s Day, the Lethbridge Casino is bringing
in Elvis impersonator  Stuart Macleod for Jan. 1 and Jan. 2.
