Things start to get really busy again this week. The Lethbridge Jazz Festival begins this week with a special gospel performance at Southminster United Church, June 8 featuring Louise Rose. There is no charge to attend.
The service begins at 3:30 p.m. If you miss the service, she will be performing a concert at the Sterndale Bennett Theatre, June. 10 at 7:30 .m. Tickets cost $25 for the show.
For something completely different, the Slice hosts punk pop godfather Jonathan Richman ( of Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers ) on June 8. He will be performing with drummer Tommy Larkins. Tickets cost $15.
The other unusual show this week is the local zine Fourth Wave Freaks fourth zine release party at the Slice, June 7.
There are a variety of performers including Wanda Krein, Sophie Wright, local rapper Pzeudo, the Prismatics, Chandelier, Lord T Bagger, Singing Sweet Soul Sisters. St. Fourthwave Creeps, the Desert Wind Belly Dancers, Emma, Brittany O’Neil, Aerosubtle and local garage rock trio the Ruby Plumes. Admission is $10 and includes a copy of the zine.
The Slice , as usual, has a lot of great shows.
They feature local roots/ country musician Dave McCann and the Firehearts on June 6. They go rock on June 4 with the Gay ’90s and Edmonton’s the Wet Secrets.
Local old time country musician Floyd Sillito also has a couple of gigs this week. He plays his regular monthly noon performance at the Lethbridge Public Library on Wednesday, June 4 from noon - 1p.m.
He is also playing at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre on Friday, June 6 at 10 a.m.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge also has great shows including folk/ roots/ jam band the Real Ponchos on June 6. They bring back Andrew Scott and Caleigh Cardinal on June 7.
If you want to laugh, Average Joes features Yuk Yuk’s Comedy on Friday, June 6. The performers will be Lisa Barker, Howie Miller and host Randy Webb. The show begins at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover.
