B.A Johnston entertaining as usual with new songs and old jokes

The always entertaining B.A. Johnston always gets good crowds and lots of laughs when he comes to Lethbridge, so his B.A. Johnston returning to Lethbridge. Photo by Richard AmeryWednesday, June 11 show at the Owl Acoustic Lounge was no exception.

While I missed the opening set by Fist City, the Hamilton based slacker poet was at his unhinged, politically incorrect best, cracking jokes at the expense of everyone and everything.

He jumped all over the stage and into to crowd as usual like a demented Weird Al Yankovic, singing goofy and hilarious songs about the minutiae of modern living, local bands, media and Medicine Hat.

He bashed away at his battered acoustic guitar and punched at his keyboards while playing drumbeats out of a Discman as he jumped on a chair, swinging his rich man's staff and stripping off his many sweaters.

“Deep Fryer in the Bedroom”  and “Hobo for Life” were early highlights, but most of the set was newer material.
“ Bad Cat Sitter” was hilarious as was his song about GST cheques.
He ended with crowd favourite “McDonald's Coupon Day”  and officially ended by singing the Littlest Hobo theme “Maybe Tomorrow” and a few bars of Judas Priest's “Breaking the Law,” before retreating to the ladies' bathroom for one last song and half the crowd before calling it a night.
