Olympic torch to cap off a busy week

This week is another busy one culminating with Lethbridge welcoming the Olympic torch, Jan. 17 to the main stage at Henderson Lake.

The torch is scheduled to arrive at 5:55 p.m. The Lighting of the celebration cauldron takes place at  6 p.m.. Hippodrome plays the Olympic torch celebration in Hederson park, Jan. 17.There will be  Vancouver 2010 Entertainment at 6;05 and local funk/rock/disco band Hippodrome will play a brief set at 6:20 p.m. and there will be fireworks and closing remarks at 6:50 p.m.

But first, Paul Kype and Texas Flood  host a blues jam at the slice tonight. Ashlee Jonesmith hosts the open mic at Henotic on Wednesday. Greg Gomola and friends host another open mic Thursday at Beaches Pub and Grill.

The Slice has a cool show on Monday, Jan. 18 with Saskatoon’s Kamila Martel and the Ne’Er Dowells. The band includes members of  the Cracker Cats and some of Saskatoon’s best musicians.

Henotic is trying a comedy night, Jan. 15 with Roman Danylo and  Dean Haglund. Danylo is a member of   sketch comedy  show Comedy Inc. and Haglund is best known as “The Lone Gunman” from the X-Files. Tickets cost $15. That same night  Henotic is also featuring  the David Harmon Experience.

Henotic is bringing in  the Nix Dixons and Matt Gigg and the intellectuals on Jan. 16.

 

On Jan. 14, Blue Rodeo along with Cuff the Duke will be visiting the Enmax Centre while John Wort Hannam plays the Slice.
 For rap fans, the Blarney Stone has Moka Only performing with the City Prophets along with SonReal, Jan. 15.
 There is yet another new club downtown in the old O’ Rileys’ building. Mood features the kick off party for Elephant Light and Sound featuring Austria, Phao and DJ Harold, Jan. 15.
Last but not least, on Friday and Saturday, the Lethbridge Casino  features Stars Tonight— a tribute act featuring the music and impersonators of Billy Joel, Huey Lewis, Neil Diamond, Joe Cocker and Elton John. And  the University of Lethbridge Headbanger’s Society were looking forward to  Salival— a tribute to the band Tool— but they had to cancel. Instead Tarantuja and Reverend Kill will be performing in the U of L ballroom, Jan. 15. Admission is $10.
