Up and coming Vancouver rapper SonReal’s positive energy  helps him stand out from the crowd. That and the fact that he not only sings as well as raps, but he also produces and engineers his own music.
“I guess I don’t really fit in. I guess I’m unique,” said SonReal from a busy restaurant in Victoria, where he was getting ready for a Jan. 10 show.
“It’s not deliberSonRealate. It just comes out. I’m not from the hood and I don’t really have anything really negative in my life. My life is going pretty good right now,” he enthused, adding his latest CD ‘The Stroll,’  which dropped Nov. 13, is getting great response from audiences, who are embracing Son Real’s positive  and inspirational message. And he even has a couple sponsors, DV Shoes and Matix  clothing which he is excited about.
“I’d say my music definitely represents me as a person. I rap about everyday things and I rap about things  rappers don’t really  cover like hockey,” he said adding the previous CD, ‘Good Morning‘ set the platform for the current CD.
“People are more receptive to my music now. it‘s really been embraced a lot,” he said adding a video for the song “Victory” which features PT Rufus is getting airplay and positive reaction. He is getting ready to film the second video  from the new CD.
SonReal earned a  diploma in recording  engineering at the Pavi School in Vancouver, but has been recording his own music for many years.
“It’s been about nine years when I started recording myself and creating my own music. I don’t really play any instruments, but I dabble a little,” he said.
He is in the midst of setting up a tour in France  in May but first Son Real is excited about  his first visit to Lethbridge.
“I’m excited, it will just be me and my DJ but it’s a high energy show with melodies and a real set. We just try to touch the people and reach out to them,”  he said.
“We’re hoping people will take something from the show, some inspiration or something positive,” he said adding his half hour set will include music from his  latest CD ‘The Stroll,” as well as  music from his last CD ‘Good Morning.’
