Victoria melodic death metal band Scimitar are excited about tearing up the Slice with several Lethbridge acts, Obsidian Soul, Accalia and Blackest Sin, Aug. 22.
“ We’ve been playing for six and a-half years. And we’re inspired by European metal and the more melodic side of death metal,” described Scimitar guitarist Noel Anstey, who formed the band in high school with his big brother George plus bassist Angus Lennox and drummer Clayton Basi.
“ We’re also influenced by folk and Viking metal. actually Angus got us into that.
And when we formed the band in high school, it definitely wasn’t mainstream and that’s what we liked about ti but by the time we graduated it had exploded and now it is mainstream,” Anstey said.
“ It’s fun music. It’s catchy, but it also has a lot of balls. It’s very aggressive. But it is a nice blend that appeals to a nice selection of people who want to have a good time but also want to feel the metal flowing through them,” he continued.
“ We made a lot of friends there. We planted the seeds and we’re very excited to get back and see the people again,” he said.
“ We have a pretty energetic live performance. We encourage the crowd to get rowdy and energetic because we feed off of that. So it is like a cycle,” he continued.
He enjoys playing in a band with his big brother.
“He’s living in my house now while we‘re working on the album. and people notice that we play guitar very similar. We have the same vision. We can really relate to each other,” he continued.
They just released a new video for “Wandering at the Moon” at midnight, Aug. 14.
“ It’s a studio play of us playing the song. It’s really short and the edits are really quick so you can really see what we’re doing,” he said adding they are working on their new album.
“ We’ll release it in January 2015. the drums are recorded and when we get back from tour we’ll concentrate on guitars and vocals,” he said.
Tickets for the show are $10 at the door. Doors open at 8 p.m.
