The Grade 11 LCI student is getting ready to record her second full length album in Nashville. She was performing a rare live concert at the Wolf’s Den, Jan. 30 with Two Spirit Sage and Celtic harpist Jan Pearce.
“I’m getting ready to record two songs for the my next CD,” Sadler said, who will be going to Nashville on Feb. 17-22 to record two of her songs, ‘Summer of You and Me’ and ‘Look at Me.’
She wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on her debut CD with the help of family members and her manager Jilla Roberts and Nashville songwriter Charlie Craig who has written songs for the likes of Allan Jackson and Dolly Parton, but she hasn’t decided if she will be working with him again on the new CD. She has hired the same backing band who played on her debut for the new CD.
“The goal is to make my own career in music. Music has always been part of my life. It wouldn’t matter how it happens as long as I’m playing music. There’s no right or wrong way to do it,” she said, adding, like the last CD she will be going back and forth to Nashville in between school, until the CD is completed. She hopes it will be out in the Fall. She is able to manage school and music thanks to LCI vice-principal Ian Low, who has helped her arrange a flexible schedule.
“He’s been there since day 1 to help me work around school and allow me the opportunity to pursuing my music career.”
Though still young, her songwriting has already evolved.
“I’ve grown so much as a singer and as an individual person,” said the soft spoken 16-year-old blonde singer who bears an uncanny resemblance to one of her idols, Taylor Swift.
She came alive on stage, belting out her future hits like a seasoned professional, though an over enthusiastic fan caused her to break out laughing in middle of ‘Summer of You and Me,’ one of her originals, on which she was accompanying herself on guitar.
She also had a good portion of the crowd singing along with every word she sang, especially on crowd favourite ’Red Bikini.’
“I like to put my love of the music into the performance. It’s so amazing to see people singing along. It’s encouraging to get that response,” she said.
“I wrote that tune when I was just 15, and I didn’t have a whole lot of experience so I wrote it with my manager and family,” she continued.
“I never stop performing. There’s never a moment when I’m not performing.”
Sadler is also going to Vancouver for the first week of March to film videos for ‘Red Bikini’ and ‘Look At Me.’ with the help of her friend in film school
“We’re going to be on the beach for ‘Red Bikini,’ it’s very self explanatory. It’s going to be below freezing, so it will be quite an experience
The other video will be very simple as well — it will be shot in front of a grand piano.
Because her film school friend has a lot of connections, she hopes the videos will be played on CMT.
“I’m definitely looking forward to it. That’s one of the goals for myself.”
