Superb shows this week


There are a variety of superb shows happening this week.
Kevin Kane, who is best known as a member of late ’80s and early ’90s band, the Grapes of Wrath and now plays with Leeroy Stagger, has a show with the Necessities at Henotic, Feb. 19.Steve Keenan and Fat Baby Jake played the 1010 Pub this past weekend and will be at Pop’s Pub on Feb. 20. The Slice will be rocking throughout the week beginning  Feb. 17  with Hamilton rock band  40 Sons.
The Slice welcomes back local psychobilly/punk trio the Phantom Creeps and the Void on Feb. 20.
Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham plays the Enmax Centre, Feb. 18 as well.
If you like hip hop, check out  Hip Hop for Haiti, Feb. 19. It not only features LRev of the City Prophets, Tru Apostles, Mase One and DJ Booda, but  also singer/songwriters Matt Grabow and Greg Gomola. That begins at 10 p.m.

For some old school country music, Floyd Sillito is playing  the River of Life Church at 6 p.m., Feb. 20.
Also, the second edition of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-art school takes place in the GCBC Lounge, Feb. 19. It features model and belly dancer Claude. It runs from 7-10 p.m. Admission is $15. Bring your own art supplies.
It’s another busy night for open mics this week.
 Tonight Darryl Düus hosts the open mic at the Slice beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m. Lindsay Coulton hosts Henotic’s open mic  on Wednesday and Beaches open mic on Thursday is going strong.
And if you missed Fat Baby Jake at the 1010 Pub this past Saturday, check them out at Pop’s Pub North, this Saturday, Feb. 20.
Also on Feb. 20, there is a special fundraiser for the Nord Bridge and Lethbridge Seniors’ Centre. Sveral New West Theatre alumni including Jeff Carlson, Erica Hunt, Scott Carpenter, Arlene Bedster, Kelly Roberts, Jordana  Kohn and Andre Royer will be performing some of their favourite songs and sketches  form the past 20 years performing together.
 Monday is also a busy night. Vancouver’s Brasstronaut  play their unique brand of jazz influenced pop at the Slice. And Henotic has a huge all ages gig on Monday  featuring several bands. Jesse and the Dandelions are on the bill as well as Amelia Earhart, Soul Static Fiend, the Myelin Sheaths and Eyes of Isis.
