Slice re-opens with Halloween bash

I didn’t get to a lot of the Halloween parties this weekend due to illness, but made a point of stopping by the Slice for their grand re-opening Halloween party, Oct. 29.

As expected, it was a blast. There was a decent turnout though not sold out. And even better, I managed to catch the Dirti Speshuls, who I unfortunately usually miss.

They played a great set of rock and roll music  including originals and catchy, upbeat covers like “ Do You Want to be my Girl,” and the set ending cover of the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage.”

Todd Carter was a charismatic frontman as usual. Jon Vornbrock added background vocals and guitar solos. Dean Wilson added solid drums and Rick Beres played big bass lines.

The Supervoid were up next including Jon Vornbrock on guitar and vocals and Dean Wilson on drums plus new bassist Christian Nelson. they played their usual set of ’90s style alternative rock with a strong Smashing Pumpkins influence. Their set focussed on familiar songs from their last couple of albums.

I could only stay for a couple of songs from Jeremy Cowper aka the Truth Messenger’s set of acoustic metal.
It was just great to see him on stage again as it has been a while.
