She took a year off from her job as a high school teacher to travel and discovered how much she missed playing music
She returns to play the Slice at the first Windy City Opry with her own band, Dec. 14.

She also just released her new solo album “It Ain’t What It Seems,” on Oct. 11 which showcases her softer side.

“People usually know me for playing  rowdy bluegrass music, but I had this backlog of slower songs. It’s actually very uplifting. A lot of people can’t even believe it’s me singing these slow songs, but people love listening to slower songs,” said Doyle from Kelowna from a tour stop with the Dead South, with whom she is filling in while their banjo player Colton Crawford gets healthy.

“I’ve known them since they started gallivanting around, so when I heard about Colton, I called them and asked how they were doing, so they asked me to fill in for three weeks and it so happened I had three weeks off from my own tour. Colton actually came up to me after a Hard Ramble show and said I influenced him. It took me aback,” she said.

After she finishes the Dead South tour,  she is playing  Calgary and Lethbridge with Rugged Little Thing, who are also playing the Windy City Opry.
“I’ll be bringing my own band including a pedal steel player Lucas Goetz, who also plays with the Deep Dark Woods,” said Doyle who plays dobro, guitar and mandolin in addition to banjo.

The Windy City Opry, which also features Calgary musician Amy Nelson plus Saskatoon’s Rugged Little Thing begins at 8 p.m., Dec. 14.
Tickets will be on sale at the door for $10.
