I have always seemed to miss Dory & the Weathermen’s sets this year. They have played a lot of fundraisers for good causes this year, but had their own show at the Smokehouse, Dec. 9, which drew a decent , though chattering, crowd of approximately 40 people.

 I was able to stay for a set which ran the gamut from classic rock to modern country, all powered by Dory Rossiter’s distinctively sultry  voice and solid band. Allan Wilson simultaneously played mandolin and guitar on a couple of songs and keyboardist Bruce Mackay added that old time rock and roll feel to the set on songs like Fleetwood Mac’s “Say That You Love Me.”

I always love their cover of Brandy Clark’s “Stripes” so I was glad to have caught it.
 For a contrast to that, they followed it up with  the soulful “ You’re No Good.”

Another spooky countryish highlight was Carrie Underwood’s “Two Black Cadillacs.”
 They wound down their set with an ’80s moment “Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love,” which I thought was going to be  their cover of Genesis’s “ I Can’t Dance.”
