Edmonton is oozing musical talent lately. Lethbridge gets to sample some of it this week thanks to the Slice.
Rock trio Tallest to Shortest play the Slice, Friday, Jan. 27 with local rock band Queen of the Worms.
It has been more than a year since Tallest To Shortest aka Sean Brewer, Mark Feduk and Cory Motz brought their own style of upbeat, quirky rock and roll to Lethbridge. There is a $10 cover for the show, which begins around 9 p.m.
The next night, Edmonton based, Newfoundland Celtic rock band the Derina Harvey band make their Lethbridge debut at the Slice, Jan 28. They were a hit at the South Country Fair two years ago and played a special concert for the Fair in High River last Spring. There is a $15 cover for the show which is expected to begin at 10 p.m.
For more Celtic music, Calgary band the Nova Scotiables are helping Coulee Brew celebrate their first birthday, Jan. 27 and 28. The music begins at 7 p.m.
There is a lot of laughter this week. The Snowed in Comedy tour returns to the Yates Theatre, Jan. 21 with comedians Dan Quinn, Pete Zedlacher, Craig Campbell and Paul Myrehaug all performing beginning at 8:30 p.m.. Tickets are $40.
Club Didi also features comedy with Deez Nutz, Jan. 28 which will feature local comedians performing freestyle comedy as well as a diss fest at 8 p.m. There will be two shows. Admission is five dollars for one or $10 for both. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge features local band the Utilities as well as Webb on Jan. 26.
The Geomatic Attic opens a busy Spring season on Jan. 26 with Calgary based musician Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, who will be playing with his own band and special guests the Silkstones beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 advance; $32.50 online $35 door.
There is also a Robbie Burns Day celebration at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Jan. 27 featuring The Lethbridge Legion Pipe Band, Lethbridge Scottish Country Dance Club, Glen Morin band and reader Douglas Mitchell. Celebrations begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each, $20 per family at door.
And get a look at the future at Attainable Records, Jan. 28 where Spit It Out– a gallery of high school and university students will be showcased. There will be art and treats beginning at 7 p.m.
The University of Lethbridge features a special guest on the weekend. Songwriter Craig Cardiff will be doing a songwriting workshop on Jan. 26 from 2—5 p.m. and will be performing at the U of L Zoo, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m.
Early in the week, Grand View, Manitoba based singer songwriter Kayla Luky returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge to host their open mic, Jan. 30.
