Lately , an Alyssa McQuaid concert is a rare occasion, so I made sure to catch her with her band Coyote Junction, consisting of a group of musicians who met through their day jobs as Chinook High teachers, at the apt Coyote Joes, Jan. 20.

They played a tight set of original songs and Alyssa McQuaid playing Coyote Joes with her band. Photo by Richard Amerychoice covers of country/ pop hits by artists like the Civil Wars, Lady Antebellum and The Band Perry.

As always McQuaid’s pleasant earnest voice rang through the room. Their cover of “Jolene” was one of several highlights. Her band, lead guitarist Chris Morden, bassist Reid Seibert and drummer Scott Davidson played a tight set and rhythm guitarist Nick Straat stepped into the spotlight to sing Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.”

If you missed them they will be playing Casino Lethbridge, Feb. 10.
