April starts off really slowly, however there are some very cool shows happening this week.
Local singer songwriters Shaela Miller and Mwansa Mwansa will be performing a special show at the Slice for CKUA.
 CKUA hosts Hayley Muir and David Ward will be broadcasting a live performance and interview with Shaela Miller and Mwansa Mwansa as part of their Touch the Transmitter tour, which is a week long, 4,000 km road trip commemorating the twentieth anniversary of CKUA’s rebirth.
 There is no cover charge for the show, which  runs from 6:30-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 5. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a chance to meet the hosts and the actual broadcast begins at 7 p.m.

Average Joes hosts a huge pop-rock show with Yukon Blonde and fellow Vancouverites the Belle Game, April 6. The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 in advance, $20 on the day of the show for any remaining tickets.
 To hear the heavier side of Vancouver, Vancouver thrash metal band Terrifier stop by the Smokehouse on April 6 in support of their new CD “Weapons of Thrash Destruction.”
The weekend features an array of different shows.

 If you are a University of Lethbridge student, celebrate the end of the school year by dancing at the Last Class bash running at the university from noon to 7 p.m. Several local acts  will be performing including the Smalltown DJS, Max Hopkins, Dim Thing, local rock band Biloxi Parish and Vancouver DJ/producer Sleepy Tom.
It is a good weekend for fans of crooners, Elvis and big band music.
 The Rotary Club of Lethbridge bring their eighth annual masquerade ball to Southern Alberta Ethnic Association hosts  a Roaring 20s masquerade party, April 7 beginning at 7 p.m.
 All proceeds from the $40 tickets go to the Ready Set Go project providing school supplies to low income children and youth.

And the Southern Accord Chorus  has their annual show at the college Drive Community Church, April 8 at 7 p.m. The chorus of 33 women from throughout Southern Alberta ’s show  is called Almost Famous and will feature plenty of fabulous harmonies. Tickets  cost $15 with  children under 12 getting in for free.

The Lethbridge Community Big band celebrates 30 years with a special “Best of the Crooners” concert at Southminster United Church. Ken Rogers will be conducting the band and special guest Michael Vanhevel from Toronto. In addition to  performing sold out concerts solo and with symphonies, he also does a fine Elvis. Tickets cost $25.

 If you are an Elvis Presley fan, The HB Holiday Bowl features two different sides of Elvis courtesy of Elvis impersonator Robin Kelly. He performs an intimate acoustic Evening of Elvis memories  on Friday, April 7. Tickets are $10-$15.
 He beings the entire show to the Holiday Bowl, April 8 with an Amazing Evening of Elvis taking the audience through Elvis’ entire career from  beginning to end.  Tickets are $15-$20. The shows begins at 8 p.m.

 There are a couple of exceptional local rock shows on the weekend as well.
On Feb. 7, the Owl Acoustic Lounge features the Silkstones and Biloxi Parish beginning around 9 p.m.
The Slice brings back fantastic UK rockers  Girls, Girls, Girls. They will be joined by local alternative rock acts the Supervoid, Fox Eyes and My Tin Hat.
 The Slice also rocks on April 8 with the Juxtaposers and Highway 61 performing.

Lethbridge‘s music scene is hopping.
 One of my new favourites, jazz /rock/pop band the Groove Apostles release their new Cd at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, April 8 with Blazed Gringo and the Man.
If you like classic rock, popular ’80s rockers Loverboy return to Lethbridge, April 8 to play the Enmax Centre with local band JJ Thomas who won  Rock 106 contest of local bands for the slot. Tickets cost $25 and $45 plus service fees.
As always there are lots of open jams this week including a  a new open mic at Club Didi on Wednesday at  9 p.m. There is also a popular open mic at the Slice, on Thursdays. There is also an afternoon open mic at Honker’s Pub on Saturday and evening open mics at Honker’s Pub and and Coyote Joes on Saturday. And on Sunday, Casa features the monthly ukulele jam from 2-3 p.m.
The Lethbridge Folk Club hosts their monthly open mic at Casa, Friday, April 7 beginning around 8 p.m. There is a two dollar cover to cover the room rental. The Onion and Owl Acoustic Lounge feature open mics on Mondays.
And the Smokehouse has begun doing open mics again. They are on the first Tuesday and third Friday of the month.
