This is the week for CD release parties, with several on deck.

Local folk/ jazz/ /Celtic group the Junkman’s Quire has their EP release party at the Owl Acoustic Lounge,Oct. 20. While local country group the Cody Hall Band release their CD the next night, Oct. 21 at the Slice.

But things start early with  several shows early in the week.

 The Owl Acoustic Lounge features their monthly jazz jam with HBO3 and Josh Davies, Wednesday Oct. 18.

Vancouver based, organ powered classic rock style band Bend Sinister Return to the Slice, Oct, 18 with Band of Rascals, who both have new albums out. The show begins at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover.

 For classic rock fans, Burton Cummings plays the Enmax Centre, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m.  He has a variety of solo hits including “My Own Way To Rock,”  “I Will Play a Rhapsody “Break It To Them Gently,” as well as was part of the Guess Who. Tickets are $93.95.

 For the complete opposite to that, Blueprint hosts an all ages show, Oct. 19 featuring Calgary’s Soft Cure aka Seth Cardinal, Cassia Hardy’s Edmonton based project Wares and local  synth pop band  Wits.  Admission is $10. Capacity is  limited, so contact the Terrific Kids Collective to get on the list.

There is also laughter on Oct, 19 as Joker’s Gone Wild returns to Casino Lethbridge with comedians,  Todd Ness, Alex Fortin and  Drew Behm. Admission is $10 for the show which begins at 8:30p.m.

 

On the weekend, tap into your inner Scotsman with the ninth annual Scotchtoberfest at Average Joes Oct. 20 . Local funk rock trio  Adequate will be performing as well as Bashed Tatties and Lethbridge Firefighters Pipes and drums. There will also be a silent auction and a Scotch bar tickets are $20 in advance,  $25 at the door. Funds will be donated to the Burn Camp for Children.

 
There is also a big fundraiser for Angela Entz at Legends, Oct. 21 who suffered a serious workplace accident on May 15.
Numerous local bands including local rock band Scotch Whiskey Limousine, Keith Woodrow, Oliver Wolf, Dory and the Weathermen, Coda, Good Time Charlie, Band of Brothers and Quick Draw perform beginning at 1 p.m. There is a $15 cover.

Family jams are back at The Owl Acoustic Lounge Oct. 21 as well. it starts at 1:30 p.m.In the evening local country/ folk duo Carter Felker and Skinny Dyck will be performing at the Owl.

 They will be joined by Edmonton songwriter John Gulian and Calgary songwriter Amy Nelson plus local songwriter David P Smith.

 If you are in the mood for a little bit of country, the Mark Hall band at Casino Lethbridge on the weekend.

It is a busy week at the Slice next week. Calgary based singer songwriter Cam Penner returns to Lethbridge, Oct. 24 with steel guitarist Jon Wood.

 The next night, Oct. 25 features Edmonton’s Matt Patershuk touring in support of third album “Same As I Ever Was. ” Steve Dawson will be joining him on lead guitar.

 The Slice features surf music with the Atomicos, Oct. 20 and will also a farewell party for their drummer Chris Lipinski. Mickey Hayward is also on the bill.

 For something slightly different, Russell Treyz and Tom Key’s musical the  “Cotton Patch Gospel” explores the question of what if Jesus was born in Gainesville , Georgia in 1950. The music and lyrics were written by  Harry Chapin.
Find out the answer at several shows at Casa, Oct. 20-22. It is directed by Jeremy Mason and features Andrew Legg plus the musical talents of Cody Parr, Matt Cameron and Kurt Ciesla. Tickets are $20 regular, $15 for students and seniors.
