Shaela Miller celebrated a successful year, including recording a new CD, launching a successful crowd funding campaign to pay for it as well as a successful first year of her monthly, Wednesday night conce
rt series “ Windy City Opry, with a huge celebration at the Slice, Dec. 13.
While I missed Ryland Moranz’s set as well as Skinny Dyck and the Chicken Catchers I arrived in time for a solid set by Shaela Miller and her band, which including Ryan“Skinny” Dyck on steel guitar, upright bassist Paul holden, lead guitarist Jon Martin and drummer Tyler Bird.
They played an excellent show of country and roots music, which turned out becoming an intriguing preview of Miller’s new CD “Bad Ideas” which is due out in March.
The band began with the first couple of tracks from the CD including the title track and “Cheatin’ and Lyin,’ and added a few older crowd favourites including “Friend In You,” and “ Still Call Me Baby.”
They had most of the audience on their feet dancing and two stepping by the end of their set.
