A decent sized audience enjoyed a night of bluegrass courtesy of Edmonton bluegrass band the Bix Mix Boys at the Lethbridge College Cave courtesy of the Lethbridge Folk Club, Feb. 10.

They played a tight set, despite a few false starts and punctuated with  easy-going humour, which appealed to the audience.
 they played a lot of classic, traditional bluegrass including a cover of Fred Allen’s “Hello City Lights,” which had the audience applauding.

 As expected with a bluegrass band, there was plenty of hot guitar, banjo and mandolin picking and a steady rumble form the upright bass, and of course vocal harmonies, which took you back to the beginning of the last century.

They switched instruments  near the end of the a set so mandolinist Terry Nadasdi could show his prowess on guitar and lead vocals as banjo player  Darcy Whiteside  and guitarist Logan Sarchfield sang most of the lead vocals in the part of the show I heard.

Whiteside was particularly impressive on “the first song I ever learned even before Happy Birthday,” which featured impressive playing and equally impressive, not to mention fast, vocals about an auction.

 Though they said they didn’t know any more songs, they were called back for an encore of a medley which included πLay My Burden Down” and  “Will The Circle be Unbroken,” which had the audience singing along.
