March opens with a veritable menagerie of live music this week and early next week.
But first, send February packing with well deserved laughter at the Owl Acoustic Lounge’s monthly stand up comedy open mic, Wednesday, Feb. 28.
The Enmax Centre Features PBR bull riding this weekend, March 2 and 3, but get in the mood for it with a big country show featuring Locash and Florida Georgia line protege Chris Lane, March 1. Lane is touring in support of his new EP and hit single “Take home Girl.” The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $67.
On the weekend, local country band the Mark Hall band play the Slice, March 2. Admission is $10. Local progressive rock band the New Weather Machine return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, March 3 with Open Channels. Admission is by donation.
Saturday is a big night for big events and fundraisers. Edinburgh Celtic soul band the Ewan MacIntyre Band play the Slice, March 3 at 9 p.m. with Chris Drew. There is a $10 cover for the show.
The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra holds an important fundraising event on March 3 as Love Notes returns to the Coast Hotel. The theme is love Notes From Camelot. Admission is $150 including a $25 tax receipt. The evening begins at at 5 p.m. with champagne followed by a gourmet five course meal and a performance by the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra.
The Geomatic Attic has a busy week this week as well with their annual community cabaret at the German Canadian Club, March 3 featuring local funk/ R and B and disco band Hippodrome plus Red River jigging and Hibikaya drummers. It begins at 6:30 p.m., Tickets are $20 in advance, $22.50 online and $25 at the door.
The next night Tri -Continental, featuring Bill Bourne, Lester Quitzau and Madagascar Slim join together from all corners of Canada to play their unique blend of blues, folk and world music at the Geomatic Attic, Sunday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $42.50 and $45.50 at the door.
The Geomatic Attic also features Southern California soulful roots rockers the White Buffalo aka Jake Smith, Tuesday, March 6 with Matthew Barber. Tickets for that show, which begins at 8 p.m, are also $42.50 and $45 at the door. Smith was also nominated for an Emmy with Kurt Sutter and Bob Thiele for the ending sequence of The Sons of Anarchy Finale “Come join the Murder.”
Also in the animal band name milieu, Big Little Lions return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, to host their open mic on Monday, March 5. They are playing a quick Albertan tour in support of their new CD “Alive and Well.”
For something completely different, Club Didi hosts Theatre’s Outre’s new production of the Confessions of Jeffrey Dahmer , Feb. 27-March 2 at 8 p.m. every night.. It is one of many events happening for Pretty Witty and Gay. The Pretty , Witty and Gay cabaret ends the festival March 4 at the Southern alberta Ethnic Association.
