It is a somewhat slower  week in Lethbridge, but there is a lot of local music plus a big multi-band fundraiser for the Humboldt Broncos this week.. First up, the May edition of the Windy City Opry is scheduled for May  9 at the Slice. Tyler Allen, the Red Hot Hayseeds and South Country Fair songwriting competition finalist Alex Ginella will open the show. Admission is $10. the show begins at 8 p.m. as usual.

 Maggie Hall is putting on her second big fundraiser in about as many weeks as she just held a fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Disease last weekend, which raised  $2,053.50 and counting.

 This week a line up of mostly hard rock and metal bands play the Smokehouse, May 12 to raise money for the Humboldt Broncos  hockey teem crash survivors and their families. Band performing including metal band Tyrants of Chaos and Eons of Earth, plus 132 Go, Undefined and Bryan Horvat. the music begins at 4 p.m. There is a $20 cover. There will also be a silent auction.

 It is a good week for local hard rock and metal as three local bands play a Thursday show, May 10  at the Canadian Polish Association. To The Mountains, Quickdraw and Extrados play beginning at 7 p.m. There is a  $10 cover.
 May 11 is pretty busy. Local blues band Steve Keenan band play Casino Lethbridge, May 11 and 12 .

 Funk rock trio Adequate return to the Slice with the Decadent Phase, May 11 as well. And Cal Toth‘s Duelling Pianos returns to Average Joes, may 11 as well.
 Flipfest features First Nations rap for their next fundraiser, May 11 at the Owl Acoustic lounge Calgary’s Cartel Madras perform along with locals the Blood Rez Crew. Admission is by donation. The show begins at 9 p.m

.
 Casa celebrates five years down town with a big, free party in the square featuring local performers Dave McCann, Bryan Bradfield, Taylor Ackerman, Floyd Sillito and the Lethbridge ukulele jam groups. The fun begins at 11 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m.
 The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra winds down their season with “Feel the Beat” featuring soprano Janet Youngdahl who performs Dennis Lee’s “Alligator Pie. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at Southminster united Church, May 11.
Saturday, get you inner geek on at Comicon at the Crossings branch Library, all day, may 12 with a variety of free activities beginning at noon.

 

 Later in the evening, Cope and the Supervoid will be rocking the Owl Acoustic Lounge. And Kevin Peters performs at the Slice.

The fun isn’t over yet.
 if you like the Beatles and Beatles solo music, the Reunion Beatles play  Southminster United Church on Sunday, May 13. The UK tribute  and lookalikes play the Beatles hits as well as solo material. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $45. In the afternoon, the monthly ukulele jam takes place at Casa from 2-3 p.m.

 And, the first big punk show of summer is at the Smokehouse as Montreal punk veterans the Ripcordz roar back into town to play the Smokehouse, Monday, May 14. with Calgary’s Mandible Klaw and Motherfuckers and local punks the Scallywags. Admission is $20 at the door.

There is even more metal coming up at the Smokehouse in May. Vancouver’s 2 Shadows “Feed the Obscene Tour— stops by  the Smokehouse, May 14 with This Gun For Hire plus local bands Revanchist and Bring Your own Bodies. There is a $10 cover for the show.

 A little later on, the Geomatic Attic features two shows with Toronto songwriter Royal Wood who brings his band back to the Geomatic Attic, May 22 and 23 with special guests, Vancouver twins Fionn. Tickets are  $42.50 and $45 at the door.
