Familiar faces scheduled to play Whoop Up Days 2018

Whoop Up Days 2018 welcomes back a lot of familiar faces to perform, Aug. 21-25, however there will be  several new attractions.The Sheepdigs open Whoop Up Days this year. Photo by Richard Amery

They open a trimmed down line up on Tuesday, Aug. 21 with the Sheepdogs and Joey Landreth of Winnipeg blues/roots duo the Bros. Landreth. Tickets for that show will be $35 in advance, $45 at the door including Whoop up Days admission, Parking will cost $5.


 It is one of the few shows with an opening act, though there will be live music happening in the Saloon featuring local band the Ryan Lindsay band playing your favourite hits, Thursday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug, 25. Local band Riff Raff hosts a live name that tune in the saloon, Friday, Aug. 24.


 The Lethbridge Rotary Club will officially open Whoop Up Days as honorary parade marshals for the Dr. Seuss themed parade in the morning.

For country night, Juno  winning country/blues/southern rock trio the Road Hammers (Jason McCoy, Clayton Bellamy and Chris Byrne return in support of their new CD “the Squeeze.”
 The rest of  the Whoop up Days live up is all about classic rock, as usual.

Can con mainstays Prism play Thursday, Aug, 23, Harlequin returns , Friday, Aug. 24 and the metal queen herself, Lee Aaron headlines on Saturday Aug. 25 at 8:30. Metal band Helix open Saturday night at 7 p.m.


There will be plenty of fun on site with magician/ comedian Alan Sands performing on the Family Stage in the South Pavilion, an interactive bubble station,The Flying Trapeze team, the Whoop Up Village pioneer park, inflatable bouncers for the kids, singing cowboy/ trick roper Joel and Jasper the Steer, and new this year, a pioneer interactive experience designed to give  kids a sense of what it was like to live as a pioneer. As always there is the trade show. And the food fair, fair food challenge and the always popular midway featuring 38 different rides.


 Bucking and Barrels returns with saddle bronc, bull riding, bareback and ladies barrel racing competitions, Aug. 23, 24 and the finals on Aug. 25
