The Lethbridge Folk Club and Geomatic Attic begin their new seasons this week

Things pick up for fall this week with two major concert series opening their new seasons and  big events welcoming back students.Hollerado are one of several bands playing Freshfesst this week. Photo by Richard Amery
The Lethbridge Folk Club opens their new, fortieth anniversary year by bringing back the Wardens to the Lethbridge College Cave on Saturday, Sept. 8.
 The Wardens are a folk trio from the Banff and Canmore area who work as park wardens and have stories and photos to share. Tickets are $30 including a membership for the season which also includes membership through to the end of 2019. Tickets are $20 for students who aren’t members and $15 for students who are members. Cathy Hawley opens the show. at 8 p.m.


 The Geomatic Attic also opens their new season this week with John Wort Hannam’s CD release party for “Acres of Elbow Room” The show begins at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $32.50 for that show.


 U of L students are in for a treat if they like indie rock with an expanded Freshfest, Sept. 7 and 8 outside the Student’s Union building. The first day features Halifax indie Rock band Wintersleep, Ottawa rock band Hollerado, local indie rock bands the Silkstones and Biloxi Parish and  the Zolas from Vancouver.
 Saturday includes Calgary power trio the Static Shift and Calgary pop singer Jocelyn Alice plus Toronto pop band Valleys. New York City based pop/soul singer Max is on the bill as is local country musician Tyson Ray Borsboom. Local DJ Zodiaque performs each night. Freshfest is only open to  students or guests of students.

Jazz jams return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Wednesday Sept. 5 with HBO3.
 Open up September with a little bit of laughter as Yuk Yuks comedy brings Andrew Albert, Dion Arnold and host Randy Webb to Average joes, Friday, Sept. 7.  The laughs begin at  8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance $20 at the door.

 

  The Slice has a big rock show on Sept. 7 with Winnipeg acoustic pop duo Alone I Walk, Toronto punk -pop band Carried Away and local metal band Gutter King and local punk pop band Every Ounce.  Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $10.
 Local punk-pop band J Blissette join Vancouver born, Edmonton based singer songwriter Marlaena Moore at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Sept. 7. Admission to that show is by donation.


The Owl features alternative rock, Sept. 8 with local band MTBC and Edmonton art/punk bands Wares and Fitness. Admission to that show is also by donation.
 Local  rock/ jazz/ pop band Bandemonium return to Casino Lethbridge, Sept. 7 and 8 playing a variety of music. They play at 8 p.m. each night.


 As it is the beginning of the month, Sunday features a ukulele jam at Casa from 2-3 p.m.
 Last, but not least, Rae Spoon returns to the Owl Acoustic lounge, Sept. 11 with Edmonton electronica artist Respectfulchild and the Ground Sloth Orchestra.


Tonight, Vancouver blues/ punk duo the Pack A.D. return to Lethbridge on their last cross Canada tour. Tickets are $15. They will be joined by Shaun Rawlins and Tyler Bartfai.
Also tonight, Thoretically Brewing Company features an alternative  pop/ electronica show with BAZEL, a witchy  electronic post pop act coming all the way from Prague, they will be joined by Calgary  electroclash/ synth-pop act Hello Moth and  local postrock duop An Ant and an Atom. Admission is $10
