“Because we  live in different cities, I find  the best way to spend some time with someone is to book a show or two with them. So we’re taking a weekend to do that,” she enthused, adding she doesn’t really know October Poppy, who is part of Vernon band She Hangs Brightly.

“Our mutual friend Tyler Allen from Red Deer booked the show at the Owl on the same night, so I reached out to her, her name is Eryn, and asked her if she’d be interested in playing a songwriter in the round show with us,” she continued adding she loves songwriter in the round shows.

“ It’s a lot more fun than just watching one person playing , though that can be cool too, but I like watching them play together on each other‘s songs,” she said.

“ I love going to music festivals. I usually skip the main stage and just watch the workshops. probably the best one I ever saw was the Sadies, Neko Case and the Good Brothers because they already knew each other’s songs,” she reminisced.

“ I love going to Lethbridge. It’s usually just an excuse to go and visit pals,“ she said, adding she never passes up a chance to travel.
“I was just in Winnipeg visiting my pal Amber Neilsen who plays in Sweet Alibi and her roommate Rayne. They had to work, so I stayed home and wrote songs, and when  they got back, we sang them, so now I have songs with three part harmonies,” she said, adding she is excited to share some of them in Lethbridge and test the harmonies with Jenny Allen and October Poppy.

“ I have some songs we can all sing on,” she said.

She has a lot of new songs.
“You never know if they will be hits or they will be crap. But I have a couple  ones I really, really like, but they aren’t finished yet,” she said, adding she also has a lot of songs she wrote at the Banff Centre two years ago.

“For the first two albums I lit a fire under my butt the get them done quickly, but I’m in no hurry now,” she said.
“ I’m busy working with a new drummer in the band. So there is a lot of work to do We’ll have to get new band photos taken and we want to work on a new live video too,” she said,.
“ And I’ve been playing a lot of festival. The Woodstove Festival  in Cumberland in November will be the end of festival season for me,” she said.
Kimberley MacGregor, Jenny Allen and October Poppy play the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Saturday, Sept. 15. Admission is by donation.
