There is a lot happening to wind down August this week in Lethbridge including a few of my favourite Canadian acts.
It being the end of the month, that means the Owl is hopping with a couple of special open mics.
Teri Petz hosts their monthly comedy open mic, Thursday Jan, 29. While if you think you’re funny, prove it at the Owl’s comedy open mic the night before, Wednesday, Aug. 28.
The Owl brings back guitarist/ songwriter Richard Inman, Aug. 30 and the next night they feature folk trio the Fates, featuring Jenny Allen, Lin Elder and Lori Reid, harmonizing and strumming beautiful music.
Down the block, the Slice bring back eclectic country/jazz ensemble Petunia and the Vipers, Aug. 30.
If you are a rap fan, on Aug. 30, Boss Pub and Pizza next to boss Hoggs’ features Loyal and T Blaze plus Lil smokey, Christian Archibald, E.Val, Kid City, BBEE, Tendilyfe, K.O. and Vixxen, Kropp Hopper and Darian King.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
Jolene Draper and The Inquisitive Few will be playing Casino Lethbridge on the weekend as well.
For something a little different, get into the Halloween mood at Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens for Urban Legends night.
Prepare to be terrified as you tour the garden, Aug. 30 and 31 while listening to three tales from ancient Japan. The event is recommended for ages 15 and up. They begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is seven dollars.
The Old Firehall is hosting Sunday brunch with live music. Dale Ketcheson and Sheena Lawson are the featured performers, Sept. 1.
And the Slice has a big, Tuesday night blues show, Sept. 3 as Saskatoon blues and roots musician B.C. Read returns to the stage.
School’s back , which means new concert seasons start for the Lethbridge Folk Club and the Geomatic Attic.
The Geomatic Attic is up first with Texas troubadour and Nashville transplant Hayes Carll playing, Sept. 7.
