There was a decent  crowd on a chilly, snowy Wednesday, Dec. 11 for The Geomatic Attic’s last show of the season. I missed Southern Saskatchewan duo Kacy and Clayton due to my radio show, but I really enjoyed a solo set from Saskatoon area musician Ellen Froese.

 Froese, who was just here a few weeks ago with her band, was just as adorable and talented on her own. She grinned as she told stories and sang a variety of music from her two records including the latest “Fighting Words,” noting Clayton Linthicum from Kacy and Clayton produced one of them.

 A highlight was Charlie the Horse about a horse which died in the Frank Slide.

She sang in an appealing voice which reminded me of folk icon Joan Baez or Keri Latimer from Nathan and Leaf Rapids.

 She looked about ready to play all night until she asked the time. The enthusiastic audience asked her to to play one more, which ended up being a crowd favourite “I Wish I had a Food Long Cigarette,” which drew a  fun filled half hour to a close.
